t20 sh 2082

Hi all

This is the start of my next project T20sh 2082. A sports cub for the home market. It was sent to J.L. Morison son & jones hong kong on the 6th july 1965. I purchased the bike in early may and it is in three large boxes with new alloy wheels and a whole lot of other new parts. The bike came to me through a friend of a friend for the excellent price of £170.

Ian the guy I bought the bike from didnt want to sell it to somebody who hadnt done a restoration project before as the bike was completely stripped down even the carb had been totaly stripped and all carefully placed in bags and boxes so i was very fortunate to get the bike in such good condition with only an exhust and silencer to buy.

Regards scott.:)

Hi Scott - You sure are a one lucky guy - £170.00 wouldn't even buy the alloy wheels - look forward to your progress - if anything like your past restorations this one is going to be another beaut -might just give me the kickstart that I need to get going again
All the best
Jim :)

Hi jim

I have the engine just over half built and i then need to get the barrel rebored and then blasted and painted as i am not sure about powder coating the barrel. I won two square heads on ebay.com for $182 the other night but one is ok and the other is a bit knackered with broken fins etc.

Hi Scott,

At £170 to get a bike? A good price, even the freight charges are more than the bike. Post it once it is ready.

Abdullah:)

Hi ron

At the ayr classic show i saw a norton comando in yellow and chrome. This gave me an idea to do a cub with a black gloss frame yellow tank oil and petrol with battery box, front and rear brake plates and headlamp shell etc. I will put on straight bars as saw a cub on a pamphlet done as a baby bonnie with the straight bars and looked really nice. Both mudgaurds will be stainless and the wheels are akront alloys which i have started to polish and they both need trued as they are just put together loosely.

Yellow and black! Seem to remember a T150 based race bike out of the States in that colour combination, very smart.
Look forward to seeing the finished article.

Hi Scott - Are you sure you didn't get the idea from the banana box that the 'Edinbugh Cub' was sitting beside in one of your photos? - only joking
Remember a guy who had a yellow bike back in the sixties and it was always referred to as 'The Fyffes Bike' for the obvious reason

Hi Scott,
Another first class job ---- the break from original colours should look good. Another Cub granted a new lease of life -- keep up the good work!!

Hi guys

Just a wee update on the progress, I have the wiring just about complete I have only to wire the coil and points and see if there is a spark (hopefully) and really not a lot to do after that, buy spokes and rebuild the front wheel afew nights would finish the bike if i had all the stuff needed.

hi all

been at the wiring and no power at the points, when checking the wiring the feed wire behind the casing must be trapped and is shorting out, when i disconnect the feed wire i have power to both sides of the coil but when connected i only have power to the negitive side of the coil. So it seems to be that the outer casing has to come of and the wire changed. When the wee boy lets me:D:D

Well friday night is upon us and a wee trip the hut has sorted the wiring problem off with the casing and there it was a trapped wire between the casing and the inner and of course there was a tiny wee nick in the cable. So a bit of heat shrink over the cable and that was that. some of the socket caps were a bit tight on the way out so i run a tap down them and all was fine on the way back in.

It was then in with the adv/ret. unit and points plate and bingo a nice blue spark.
