Stachions - bantam ones

I'm still planning my 60 road bike conversion to trials/ t20c looking bike and having bought bushes and seals can't find any cub lightweight stanchions.
But I found an old post that suggests fitting bantam ones that will be longer than standard. The bible indicates that the springs on all cubs are the same so what will happen? Do I get more travel? A higher ride? Will the threads on my fork top nuts fit?
I intend to have a cut down nacelle.

Dave,
Just checked documents on file from my T20 restoration in 2003. The lightweight fork stanchion part number is H1035.
I just checked Greystones on line catalogue but they are showing "out of stock". If you want answer on use of Bantam units I suggest you call either Adrian or Dereck at Greystone for advice.
HOWEVER --- in 2003, I bought new stanchions from TMS at Nottingham. They were good quality. Their website is at :
http://www.tms-motorcycles.co.uk/
I have just checked on line catalogue and they still have new items listed under 97-1035 @ £25 each. Worth calling them.

hi
thanks

Yup, checked TMS and also Burton bike bits. Only a couple of months ago, the bloody things were everywhere and now there's not a pair in the country.

Burton bike bits are waiting for a new batch so I assume that so's everybody else.

Bantam ones are cheaper and available but further reading suggests that I'd need maybe T20c yokes which are thicker. Years ago, I had a bodged set of stanchions using the standard yokes and I now remember that I had to have someone make me a pair of v thick washers' spacers to take up the slack.

I need to order some odds and sods from Greystones anyway.

The standard Bantam D7/D10/D14 stanchions are identical to the lightweight Cub ones in every way except for the overall length. I've never managed to get a reliable comparison of the free lengths of the springs, but mine is running quite happily with Bantam stanchions and Cub springs.
