Hello

Hi…this is Jinx…..new member since May…been lurking for a while and I guess it’s time to ID my self

I’ve been trying to find a Cub to meet my needs ( and $ ..less than $900) for ten years now. In March I bought a 1965 T20SC and drove 2400 miles from South Florida to New York state and back to pick it up. The trip and repairs to my van in a snowstorm in the mountains of PA cost way more than the bike! (you don’t want to break down be in a snowstorm wearing Florida appropriate clothing …Duuh) . I’m retired, meaning fixed income, so I can’t plan on spending any more than necessary to get a solid running bike. This one was “barn fresh” having been put away in very not running condition in 1967 by the owners father, however, everything vital was there….one of my prime requirements.. I grew up riding Tiger Cub(s) on and off road in 1958 to 63 and well remember the good and bad so I wanted to eliminate as much of the bad as I could..(Boy do I remember that ET system.) My point here is I can’t call this a restoration as there are many changes made and probably more to come. Some with expense in mind and some improvements, but it runs well already. At 68 I don’t think I’ll spend much time off road on it (I had been using a Montessa Cota till now). I read the posts and see the pains taken to get everything just “correct” for the year and model, so if the idea of not restoring this bike to those specs. offends the forum just tell me and there won’t be any more posts from me….I’ll still lurk though….lots of good info here!! In any event I’ll try and attach one “before” and one “as far as I’ve gotten” pix in this post .
Jinx:cool:
PS pix don't seem to be attaching

A very warm welcome to the Forum Jinx from Bonnie Scotland

Like yourself and some other members I'm not into concours restorations but I like to think that my 3 x Cubs are representative of how a 50 year old bike should look

If you have the cash and the time and the desire to do a concours resto then that's fine after all it's a matter of personal choice

There are plenty of Cubs out there that are not original specification - but does that matter?

Over the past few years the price of Cub spares Jinx have gone through the roof - keep an eye on the well known auction site as there are still some bargains to be had or ask for help here on the Forum

Look forward to hearing of your progress

All the best

Jim :)

Jinx - Welcome from sunny Devon.
Restoring a 50 year old bike is much more fun when you do it your way (as Frank used to sing).
Even more so when cash is short - it's amazing what can be cobbled to fit.

Attaching pictures isn't too difficult.
Firstly, ensure the picture is resized to be no more than 640 x 480 pixels.
Save the picture to a convenient place on your computer (I put mine on the desktop then delete it when I've posted it)
Next, use the "post reply" button at the bottom of the message to write your reply.
In the window that you write your message will be a box titled "Attachment" and with a "Browse" button.
Click the Browse button and navigate to your picture's location (desktop)
Click on it and then post your text and picture.
Martyn

That's a good looking Cub, Jinx.
I like the red barrel - different from all the silver ones and more eye catching than my black one.
Run it as it is and when bits wear out or drop off replace them with ether proper Cub bits or whatever fits.
A happy Cub is a used Cub.

Welcome (lurker) Jinx. Wish my restoration looked like that!!! I doubt it will look that good when I'm finished. Still, I drove 16 miles 20 years ago to buy mine, and thought that was a long way to go for a 17 year old, paying his mum for the petrol. Guess things are a bit different mileage wise stateside. Enjoy, and keep us informed of what you're up to.

good luck...it is more work than I imagined...so many things that look ok but really are not going to work and lead to something else etc. etc. But at the end of the day you usually feel pretty good about something.
I'm riding it around but it's not completely legal yet..needs a speedometer and mirrors...(I hate mirrors) got an electronic speedo coming from "trail tech" that will fit anything and mirrors from China...(of course)..the volt regulator is chinese the controls from "bulletwala" royal enfield in India...well you get the idea...if you look and can adapt there are interesting things available.
have fun:P

Hi Jinx. Welcome to the forum from The Netherlands. Don´t worry about your Cub not being original. When down sizing photo´s to 640x480 you might also have to save them in a low quality. I save mine in "3" (12 being the best quality) that works for me.
