Oil leak in points area.
My 57 bike has a fair few dribbles but I would like to fix the one from the base of the "distributor". A previous owner blagged silicone on the
joint which was not pretty, or very useful for that matter.
I suspect that the crankcase might be under unfair pressure and that a rebore/new rings might be the long term fix...
.......however is it worth replacing the seal there? If I loosen the clamp ring does the distributor unit simply lift off? What does the seal look
like? I can't see any illustration in the book.
Is there I crankcase breather that I can inspect in case it is bunged up?
Any tips or comments welcome. Thanks. |

Hi Doug
Once you slacken off the clamp and disconnect the connection you should be able to lift the dizzy out
There is an 'O' ring fitted on the Dizzy shaft which you should be able to replace
A standard 'O' ring should do the biz

Thats good advise from Raggles39 Doug, the only comment that I would make is that that once slackened the dizzy can be a bit hard to pull up and out
(at least on my T20) simply because the "o" ring binds a bit as it comes up. However it sounds like yours may be split or missing, either way its an
easy job to fix. Let us know how you go on,

Great, thanks for the advice
I will report back, but not right away as the weather is bucking up and I may leave the job for a bit.
