Clutch problems
Hi all
Forgot to add the reason that we are trying to get the side cover off is that the clutch rod is seized in the main shaft, trying to get in and see
what damage was done.
Is the rod seizing in the main shaft a common problem? What to do to avoid the problem again?

The clutch rod seizing is NOT a main problem with the Cub.
What makes you think it's seized?
The actuator end may have become a tad stiff or the ball bearing may have been dislodged or the lever may have fallen off the end of the rod, but the
rod shouldn't have seized because it's a lot smaller than the hole in the mainshaft and has a bronze bush insert bush to guide it.

Good luck.

clutch problems
We haven't got into the rod, the adjustment screw end that the rod rides on looks like its been drilled, the rod ground into the end of the screw.
Got to get the ignition rotor off so we can get to the clutch linkage, trying not to break anything on disassembly.
