I acquired the bike 11/06/91, as a basket case. Was originally converted to trials 1993. But was not a very good conversion, the guy that rebuilt it was anti small bikes, and it never got to run properly. And I got fed up of pushing it back to the Van, after breaking down in the middle of a trial.
So another rebuild was undertaken in 1998, by two brothers from Gillingham in Dorset. Who are Tiger Cub specialists, and ride there own cubs most weekends and are regular award winners. They didn’t want to know the original engine, as it didn’t have roller bearings big ends, so they acquired a later engine. Which I have recently had converted to a 250cc by Martyn Adams of Serco, with the new aluminum barrel, oil pump conversion and 2nd gear pair etc.
It is a totally different bike now, and I have just removed the Amal carb, and fitted a Mikuni, and it starts and runs a lot better now.
There is quite a strong following in my area for Pre 65 trials and I enjoy competing, although not doing very well, but its good to get out on the Cub when time permits.[ED Note: Mike sent me a follow-up e-mail with the following information]
I enclose the Registrar's findings, for my Cub. I joined the The Triumph Owners club, to enable me to tax the bike to ride on the road, and with anything older than 25 years is tax exempt anyway. In the UK. So all you need is insurance.
The original engine number was T20 56390. And the current engine number is T20SH 92217.Mike is in Tauranga New Zealand.
